Akeneo just released all the details of its latest major update, and it’s full to the brim with AI enhancements and other features purpose-built to help ecommerce brands scale their product experiences and grow.
With a focus on smarter automation and flexibility, this summer’s Akeneo update aims to empower technical teams, managers, and developers to manage product data more efficiently and intelligently, from faster PIM implementation to optimizing product content for new channels.
Here are all our favourite new features announced coming to Akeneo’s Summer edition.
Speed Up Onboarding with Akeneo Data Architect
Akeneo’s first AI Data Architect Agent automatically designs and evolves your product data model. It serves as an intelligent “architect” to generate flexible product information management (PIM) structures in a fraction of the time. Data Architect works by combining Akeneo’s “deep product data modelling expertise” with AI-powered automation.
This is exciting because it will essentially cut down your PIM implementation time from months to days. Akeneo also states that you can now cut implementation costs by 70% with this new tool.
Since data modelling will now be automated, technical teams and PIM admins won’t need to define every attribute manually anymore. At the same time, ecommerce managers benefit from quicker onboarding of new products, ultimately speeding up all aspects of the implementation flow.
New Attribute Inheritance Builds Hierarchical Product Data Models that Scale
Akeneo is launching a new Attribute Inheritance capability that lets you define shared core families of attributes and have related product families automatically inherit those attributes and completeness rules. Basically, you model a set of common attributes once and then reuse it across multiple product categories.
By inheriting attributes, users ensure consistency and save time. This means no more duplicating the same fields for every product family. It ensures that all related products follow the same standards and makes scaling easier: you can “model once, enforce consistency, and adapt endlessly” as your catalogue grows.
This also makes everything much more maintainable and scalable, which is super important for businesses with large catalogues or complex product lines.
AI-Powered Product Enrichment (Automated Content Extraction)

New AI-driven enrichment tools can extract product attributes and content directly from media files (images, PDFs, etc.) and even auto-generate product descriptions based on this information. This means that the PIM can scan an image or a catalogue PDF and extract structured data, such as dimensions and materials, as well as suggest descriptions, turning your product assets into usable product data.
We love this new capability, as it will be a massive time-saver for catalogue enrichment. This dramatically reduces the time spent on manual data entry, while AI helps to fill in product descriptions and other copy, allowing your content team to focus on fine-tuning other content that can help grow the business.
Composable Products for Bundles and Kits
Launching with this update is Akeneo’s Composable Products feature, which offers a more flexible and scalable alternative to the older, more rigid product association system. You can link components, such as individual SKUs, into a parent-product structure that mirrors how you sell them (e.g., a set or bundle) without requiring workarounds.

This means users can easily create new combinations or kits on the fly and have the PIM manage those relationships cleanly. It’s more intuitive for teams and scalable for the catalogue, ensuring that how products are structured in the PIM reflects how customers buy them.
Our agency has several clients that utilize complex bundles, and this will essentially eliminate the need for the clunky workarounds or manual linking they previously had to rely on. It also makes it easier for marketing and merchandising teams to experiment with new product combinations, such as gift sets and bundles, without the hassle.
Learn how AI/LLMs are Interpreting your Product Data
AI has felt somewhat like a walled garden, where no one can be entirely sure how and why LLMs, such as Google Gemini or ChatGPT, choose which websites and products to recommend to users when they ask for suggestions or information.
Akeneo aims to demystify AI and shopping assistants with a new feature in PX Insights called AI Discovery Optimization, which reveals how AI assistants interpret and present your product data to users. It provides guidance on optimizing your product content so that these AI-driven systems will better find and recommend your products.
Think of it as SEO but for AI assistants: it tells you what an AI might say about your product and how to improve so that these LLMs favour your brand more in their recommendations. When you know how generative AI views your product information, you can boost your reach on these emerging channels and increase your relevance for AI-driven shopping queries.
Honourable Mentions:
While we’ve broken down the highlights from this year’s Akeneo 2025 Summer Update, there are still even more upgrades that we’re excited to learn more about and try out.
Here are a few more improvements from this latest release:
-
Channel-Specific Permissions: Admins can now set permissions on a per-channel basis, ensuring that specific user roles or teams only have access to edit or view product data for specific channels.
-
Google Shopping in PX Insights: Now, Google Shopping data is displayed right in Akeneo’s analytics dashboard to highlight gaps or issues in your product listings and view how they’re performing in Google Shopping campaigns.
-
Easier Omnichannel with Flat-File Fast Track: Akeneo’s Flat-File Fast Track program simplifies adding new marketplace channels that aren’t natively supported yet. Now, users can upload a flat-file template for Akeneo to turn into a mappable channel in your PIM Activation module within a few days.
