Akeneo just released the details of its Spring 2026 update, and it’s pretty clear that the product information management (PIM) company is betting on a future where product data has to work harder, move faster, and make itself as useful to AI systems as possible before customers even land on your product pages.
Here are all our agency’s favourite new features announced for Akeneo’s Spring Release, A.K.A., The Great Restack, this year.
Build an Adaptive, Self-Improving Catalogue
One of the most interesting themes in this release is Akeneo PIM’s push toward a “self-improving” catalogue. The platform now aims to bridge external market signals back into the PIM, so product teams are not just told that something is missing. Now, they’re given suggestions for the attributes and values needed to fix marketplace rejections or better respond to search trends.
Akeneo says this is designed to help teams update their catalogues at the speed of the market, so there’s less time wasted trying to figure out why their rejection happened in the first place.
This is great because catalogue growth tends to get messy fast. New product lines, new categories, and new sales channels all create pressure on your data model. Pair this with Akeneo’s Data Architect Agent, which uses your existing PIM structure as a blueprint and suggests only the missing attributes and families needed to support new products, and your time-to-market just shrank considerably.
Better Supplier Collaboration with Contributor Portal and Staging Catalogue
Currently in beta, the new Contributor Portal allows suppliers to contribute product content and information through special dedicated accounts. Instead of relying on spreadsheets, email attachments, or even file drops from vendors, brands can bring supplier collaboration into a more structured workflow.
Akeneo positions this as a more secure and transparent way to collect high-quality product information at scale. These accounts are also auditable, ensuring that everything is done securely and with a paper trail.
Also in beta is the new staging catalogue that creates a controlled review space where supplier submissions can be checked and tracked before they make their way into the core PIM. Teams can review, validate, and approve incoming information before it affects downstream workflows.
For brands working with multiple vendors, distributors, or regional suppliers, this will be a huge improvement as cleaner intake upstream usually means fewer issues downstream, whether that equates to missing attributes, broken listings, or rushed fixes right before launch.
Akeneo AI-Powered New Feature Breakdown
Once again, AI-driven updates dominate this release. Here’s what matters in terms of AI on Akeneo’s new features of 2026 list.
Gain More Control Over Your GenAI Strategy
Adding AI to PIM software isn’t the exciting new development that it used to be, but that doesn’t mean that we’ve stopped pushing the limits on how these LLM-based tools can be implemented in our day-to-day product data enrichment tasks.
Akeneo was already leaning into AI in earlier releases, but Spring 2026 feels more mature. A big part of that comes from the PIM’s new GenAI strategy layer, which combines brand context injection with flexible model selection. Teams can now use Akeneo’s built-in models or bring their own LLMs, while applying brand context to generate, translate, and enrich content at scale.
The idea is that AI-generated product content can remain aligned with business requirements rather than leaning into the same generic text that badly prompted LLMs can output.
Lots of brands are experimenting with AI-generated descriptions and translations, but the real challenge lies in generating better copy consistently, and across thousands of SKUs and multiple channels. This update will help facilitate that since users can now choose which AI model or tool they want to bring into their PIM.
Learn How AI Is Interpreting Your Product Data
One of the most interesting carry-overs from Akeneo’s recent roadmap is PX Insights: AI Discovery Optimization. Our Summer 2025 breakdown already highlighted AI Discovery Optimization as a way to understand how LLMs interpret product data. In Spring 2026, Akeneo is pushing this concept further and explicitly calling it the first “closed-loop” for AI commerce.
Now, PX Insights can show how your products rank in ChatGPT and identify missing keywords or high-value attributes, including technical specs and consumer-facing terms, that should be added or improved.
While traditional SEO is still important, product discovery is increasingly happening through AI assistants, recommendation engines, and conversational interfaces. If your product data is lacking, vague, or missing the terms shoppers actually use, those systems are less likely to surface your products effectively. Now, Akeneo users have the upper hand without needing to use (or pay for) yet another SaaS tool.
Get Instant Support with Ask Ziggy
Another standout update is Ask Ziggy, Akeneo’s always-on AI assistant. Similar to Shopify’s Sidekick assistant, Akeneo describes it as an on-demand expert that can answer questions about working in the platform or help inspect product data. It’s also featured as part of the company’s broader “AI-ready product experiences” theme.
It might not be the flashiest feature update of the bunch, but this bot can prove to be extremely useful for teams that find themselves digging through documentation to find answers to simple questions that they can now just ask the assistant for help with.
Make Channel Activation Easier with Channel Readiness and Custom Channels
Akeneo’s new Channel Readiness Guide audits your PIM model against marketplace requirements before you start mapping data to a new channel. Akeneo says it uses AI semantic matching to flag blockers and build a prioritized action list, helping teams identify data gaps earlier in the process. That could be genuinely helpful for brands looking to expand into more channels and marketplaces without worrying about missing data.
Another strong addition to Akeneo’s feature set is its new Custom Channels capability. Users can now launch new syndication channels in days instead of weeks using a self-service retailer template configurator, rather than waiting on engineering work and worrying about not getting the retailer’s structure and attributes matched properly.
Unlock More Flexibility with the Extension Platform
Rounding out our breakdown is Akeneo’s new Extension Platform. Akeneo says it provides businesses with a secure, scalable way to build and run custom extensions on the platform without having to manage infrastructure. The examples it gives include custom UI components, complex data transformations, and system integrations.
This new capability suggests Akeneo wants to offer more flexibility without forcing everything into brittle workarounds or external custom stacks. That could make it easier to support business-specific workflows inside the platform while maintaining stronger governance.
If you’re a merchant with complex requirements, this will probably be super valuable to you since out-of-the-box functionality only really works if your business fits inside the proverbial box, which isn’t always the case.
Honourable Mentions
While we’ve broken down the highlights from this year’s Akeneo 2026 Spring Update, there are still even more upgrades that we’re excited to learn more about and try out.
Here are more improvements from this latest release:
-
Next-Generation Product Grid: Make high-volume work easier with a clearer view of product hierarchies and publication statuses in one centralized interface.
-
Improvements to Self-Service Sales Workflows: Now with single sign-on, smarter search for cross-sell opportunities, simpler exporting, and analytics to help teams spot trends and close deals more efficiently.
Neither of these is as flashy as what we covered above, but they’re practical improvements that we believe many of our clients will appreciate in their day-to-day work, improving data quality with the PIM.
